Istiklal Street in Beyoğlu District, one of the most important streets of Istanbul, and the Nostalgic Tram, the only means of transportation serving on this street, are one of the most symbolic means of transportation in Istanbul and Turkey.
"The nostalgic tram T2 Taksim - Tünel on İstiklal Avenue, which dates back to 1914, featured in many films, novels, and poems, and sells model and visual souvenirs to both local and foreign tourists, is preparing to be carried into the future with a new generation of electric vehicles.
The interior and exterior design of the existing nostalgic tram on Istiklal Street is exactly the same and preserves its current historical identity, 100% battery powered,
With a range of 150 km on a single charge, it will be able to make 107 trips along the 1.4 km long İstiklal Avenue on a single charge,
It has a double engine and a total engine power of 40 kW,
120kw battery and 84 passenger capacity,
Safety equipment such as Regenerative and Hydraulic Brake Systems
Camera mirror system for passenger safety,
The first battery-powered tram, which passengers cannot hold on to from the outside and travel in a dangerous way, was produced and test drives began.
After the completion of the test runs, the new battery-powered tram will start operating on Istiklal Avenue.
The goal is to eventually convert all vehicles into battery-powered vehicles and eliminate overhead power lines on the streets to prevent visual pollution and create a safer and more environmentally friendly transportation system.
